Rocío Gamonal: “My big aim is the Olympic Games”

Rocío Gamonal

BH Toscaf’s biker, Rocío Gamonal, one of the ones selected alongside Marga Sullana and Ana Villar for the XC European Championship, which will take place from 16th to 18th May in Sankt Wendel (Germany), will focus on getting the best place in the European Championship without forgetting her great aim for this season, the Olympic Games in Peking.

“It's something fixed in the selection and it is always in my competitions calendar. This year I’m weaker than last year. I got to tenth position last year and it was a great result for me, because being among the top 20 at an international level is quite complicated. I will be entering this competition a little less physically prepared as my objective will arrive later on”, Gamonal assured.

For her, “the Olympic Games are big words and they only take place every four years. The European Championship can be prepared to the full next year" the Spanish biker commented.

BH Toscaf’s biker doesn’t rule out the Olympic Games but, despite her reservations, she is counting on going to Peking. “The definitive place is for Marga Fullana, but anything can happen before the Olympics and I have to prepare myself as though I was really going to compete”, the cyclist from Asturias assured.

Rocío Garmonal will prepare the race training at home this weekend and next Tuesday she will travel with the German team in order to get acclimatized and to see the circuit. “I am excited about taking part in the European Championship, because it means they count on me. My job is to do well and be as ahead as possible, but always taking into account my previously planned objectives”, the BH Toscaf’s biker concluded.
