The G5 will become a referent for many. This might sound exaggerated, yet, the revolutionary features of the new top-range model of this firm –which is based in Álava- involve exponential improvements as compared to the previous model, the G4, which was already amazing.

The G5 involves a radical, qualitative change in the conception of road bikes, because its carbon frame combines all the latest technological advances in road bikes.

G5, the lightweight world champion

The G4, with a ‘record’ weight of 850 grams only, has been outdone by the new G5, which goes one step further: its frame and the use of advanced welding techniques have made it possible to increase the tube section, improving the rigidity of the frame and reducing its total weight.

All these advances have been possible thanks to the research and design work of the BH engineers, who have managed to reduce the frame of the SM model to 810 grams, who can offer you more?

Maximum rigidity? No, it’s even better

We have already told you how we have increased the rigidity of the G5, but there is still more. BH Research, Development and Innovation team has spent a long time developing the new frame, increasing its rigidity by 100%. We have also optimised the crankset performance, improving its lateral rigidity by 95%. And we have redesigned the back set completely in order to obtain a more rigid lateral design, without sacrificing comfort on the road.

And there still more: the design of the gear set support is completely new and apart from providing greater rigidity it also increases the gear performance efficiency.

5 essential elements of the G5

- BB30 crankset: Compatible with Shimano, with exclusive adapters, the innovating bearing system improves pedal efficiency and bike efficiency in descents.

- Perforated carbon handlebars for cables: The new frame of the G5 includes perforated carbon handlebars, which is also a top design feature that defines the technological level attained by BH.

- Back set design: The narrow axis of the seat improves vibration muffing and reduces lateral flexion.

- New fork design: The new G5 fork combines the characteristic G5 frame design and the assembling experience of Edge Composites, a leader in composites. The result is an exceptional fork, rigid and efficient.

- New seat and seat post: The seat post was designed for a narrow frame and to improve attachment power. As to the seat post, it is lighter, more rigid and stronger, which improves its efficiency.

Expert opinion

Now you know all the secrets of the new G5 by BH, but we want you to know the sensations experienced by one of the few privileged persons that have already tried it: José Luis Arrieta, member of AG2R LA MONDIALE, a team sponsored by BH. José Luis tried the G5 during last year’s Dauphiné Libéré, and he got a great impression: “The G5 has been made to match any top bike in the market at present. It is the epitome of avant-garde”.

In fact, the G5 was the main focus during this competition, traditionally considered the threshold of the Tour de France: “I am very happy with this bike and it has become the main attraction. Everyone asks me about it. It works well and it is very beautiful”.

According to Arrieta, it involves a considerable evolution as compared to the G4: “Mainly in the gear and crankset. In descents, the G4 used to swerve to the side a bit more than this new model. although the G4 was very good in descents too – as a matter of fact, the AG2R attained many victories in descents last year – but now the front set has greater rigidity, which helps you take curves smoothly”.

A professional as José Luis Arrieta, with a long experience, knows that a good working tool is of paramount importance. And he wants his bike to obey his legs. And the G5 meets this requirement: “The bicycle has improved thanks to the BB30 crankset and to the new bearings in the gear, which have a bigger diameter towards the base, with a more efficient, direct pedal and descent performance; yet – Arrieta says – it is not unstable, which is what happens with other bikes”.

The epitome of avant-garde

Arrieta insists that the G5 is an avant-garde model from the technical and aesthetic point of view: “The new lower bearing provides a sensation of firmness in the front. Besides, you can see that the bike is over dimensioned – as usual now – when it comes to putting up with a great effort, and that the back sheaths are narrow, which is also rather usual right now”.

“It is made with smooth carbon, which is becoming the most widespread type. Furthermore, the sheaths in the back set also have greater rigidity”, according to Arrieta, who is well acquainted with his new bike.

This cyclist from Guipúzcoa is not in the least surprised that BH bicycles have attained such technological development: “I have always noticed that BH takes care of the tiniest detail in its products. The first time I rode a BH bike I felt its angles and geometry were highly studied. And this is very soothing and makes you feel safe in a competition”, José Luis said.

In BH we are highly proud or our achievements with this road model. The G5 is the result of the efforts of many people in our premises in Vitoria and in the United States. Lots of hours researching, designing, testing, developing models and plans, carrying out meetings… and now we see the results.

We honestly believe that G5 is the best road bicycle in the market. So far, it will be officially tested by the AG2R LA MONDIALE team during the next Tour de France. And the first one hundred G5 units will be launched. But we will only feel fully satisfied if buyers share our same feeling: namely, that this is the best bicycle of 2009. If this is so, we will feel we have made it.
