The Auber 93 rider surprised the great favourites at the Chantonnay finish with his good position for the final sprint.  Steven Tronet new French Cycling Champion with BH Ultralight

Steven Tronet, member of the Auber 93 team, and the BH Ultralight became the French champion in a photo finish of the race held in Chantonnay.

The triumph of Steven Tronet was a surprise in the outcome of the French championship and the Auber 93 rider was the fastest and knew how to position himself in the leading group in a final with a serious accident.

Everything changed in the last kilometre with the crash of Nacer Bouhanni, the top favourite that caused much agitation in the group and much movement among the riders to find the ideal position for the final attack.

Steven Tronet, with the BH Ultralight, was the most intelligent to reach the final metres stronger than other important finalists like Tony Gallopin, Silvain Chavanel, Warren Barguil, and the new Classics specialist Julian Alaphillipe, the French cycling sensation. A battled Thomas Voeckler had to settle with watch from a distance how the blue vest of Auber 93 and the BH Ultralight arrived in an outstanding first position to become the French Champion.

The 28-year old rider from Calais is signing his eighth and best season as a professional and over the last two weeks has shown his enormous level with prestigious triumphs against the best racers and with the best riders of the World Tour.

Ten days ago he also surprised in the inaugural session of the outstanding South Route with a triumph in the initial stage that also allowed him to be leader for two successive days in a race that was intermittently marked by the great duel on the mountains between Alberto Contador and Nairo Quintana as an aperitif for the Tour de France.

Steven Tronet obtained with the French national championship the most prestigious triumph of his career and fourth in a successful season in which he has also obtained victories in the Ardenas Circuit, Ronde de L'Oise before reaching the ten magic days with his dazzling triumphs in the South Route and that which meant his wearing the three-colour flag in all races during the next twelve months.
