Stretching

Taking a few minutes to warm up and stretch our muscles and joints at ease increases performance and can help avoid injury: ten minutes of leisurely pedalling to warm up and about the same amount of time to stretch at the end of ride.

Different stretches (legs, back, buttocks) tone and relax parts of the body that were in repetitive motion during the ride. When stretching, it is better to hold the stretch for a few seconds without forcing it or “bouncing,” which used to be the trend but can do a lot of damage to the tendons.

Stretching is even more important for cyclists who do a lot of mountain biking, because the range of movements and use of different body parts is greater in mountain biking than in road cycling.
