Mario Mola wins the Clermont ITU Sprint Triathlon

This weekend in Clermont saw victory for Mario Mola as he excelled in what was a brilliant race and one in which he held the lead throughout. The Spanish Triathlete was left down in fourth place after the swim just seconds after Tony Zafares who took the lead. The first kilometers of the cycling saw Mola join the three leading cyclists to create a quartet which subsequently due to the thrust exerted in the group to chase the Americans Murray and Shoemaker was a group of 12 cyclists. At this point it was clear that the race was all going to be down to the 5000 metre track final.

It was here that Mario Mola demonstrated that he was the strongest competitor. Following the selection, Mola, Murray and Shoemaker remained in the lead but could barely keep up with the pace of the islander. It was in the final 2 kilometre stretch where Mola pushed the boat out as the North Americans could no longer hold his pace and were left fighting amongst each other for second place. Mola managed to achieve a comfortable victory allowing the celebrations to begin during the final metres of the race. Such a great success for Mola in this prestigious event gives him confidence and self-esteem to face his upcoming races.
