I could say they tricked me. I knew I had the technical skills for competition, but it was brutally hard. I finished exhausted, completely drained, and I told myself: I need to train properly.

THE RIGHT DECISION AT THE RIGHT TIME:
SOLARIDER TEAM’S BET ON MTB TECHNIQUE,
with Ramón Sola

Talking about MTB technique classes was something unusual until not long ago. After all, everyone knows how to ride a bike, right? But with the improvement of bicycles and the massive arrival of e-bikes, more and more riders have access to more challenging terrain.
Improving technical skills can completely change our experience on the bike, which makes us wonder how we can achieve that. It was in this context that Ramón Sola, director of Solarider Team, decided to take a risky path.

Ramón had a background in several sports where technical skills were essential—from BMX and enduro to motocross. In fact, it was motocross that ultimately led him to MTB, though not in the way you might expect. A serious injury while practicing motocross got him hooked on cycling, as it turned out to be a great sport for rehabilitation.
The natural step was to transition into enduro. However, his debut wasn’t easy. His first enduro race was a bit of a shock. Although he had the technical skills to handle the toughest situations, he discovered that cycling also involved other factors:

As he worked on his own training to improve in enduro, he realized that specific MTB technique training was almost nonexistent. There was no structured approach to technical skill development. Drawing from his experience in other sports, he noticed that in cycling, it was simply assumed that everyone knew how to pedal, yet there was a huge gap when it came to technical training. The deeper he got into the sport, the more evident this lack of structured technique training became.

Ramón took a gamble. He left a secure and stable job at a large company to embark on an entirely unknown path, dedicating himself to MTB training. It wasn’t just a risky career move; he also made this decision at a challenging time in his life, just after the pandemic and shortly after becoming a father.
"I knew this was what motivated me. My family supported me, but I know they thought I was crazy for leaving my job for this. Looking back now, yes, it was a crazy decision. But it worked out. I made the right decision at the right time."

After a lot of effort and dedication, we are where we are today

One of the biggest challenges Ramón faced in developing his Solarider concept was that he was starting from scratch. “Now things have changed; now there are references on how to do things. But back then, everything was new. When you mentioned a cycling school, people only thought of kids' schools, not about technique and general riding skills."
The question I always got was: What are you going to teach them? Everyone knows how to pedal. I decided to fight against that and prove that it was possible.

You might think that improving technical skills in MTB is only relevant for enduro, gravity disciplines, and racing. But that’s not the case. Technical improvement is valuable for any rider: "Most of my students are amateurs who are just starting out. Although I began with enduro, today we train riders from all MTB disciplines. We have XCO riders who want to improve their technique, beginners who want to learn, and riders who want to take on more technical challenges… It’s something open to everyone."
A significant advantage is that technical training is becoming as normalized as physical training. The evolution of bicycles also plays a big role. "Modern bikes allow you to do more. Many riders see this but may lack the technical skills to take full advantage of their bikes." The rise of e-bikes is also a game-changer.
Many people who couldn’t previously reach the top of a mountain to enjoy longer, more technical descents can now do it

Today, Solarider and BH are closely linked, partnership that developed naturally over time.
"We went to Festibike and introduced ourselves at the BH stand, and surprisingly, they already knew who we were! It was an incredible feeling. That’s when we discovered the BH team, and their human approach made all the difference. We had several options on the table, but their personal touch stood out. It wasn’t just a cold business relationship; it felt like joining a family. Plus, they were about to launch the BH iLynx + SL, which fit perfectly with what we needed."

We felt truly supported. That’s why we chose BH
Using BH bikes as their main tool, Solarider also provides valuable feedback on their performance in various conditions. "We’re not directly involved in product development, but since we ride a lot, we can share real-world insights. BH is very receptive to feedback, always attentive to our input, which is something that also motivates us."
So, if you're thinking about improving your MTB skills, not just for better race performance, but to fully enjoy and make the most of the cutting-edge technology that BH bikes offer today, a technique training course could be your best investment.
